Why We Cry...An Email That I Got Yesterday

I thought this was funny and obviously written by a woman. I'll post it for the purpose of getting some male and female feedback. Personally I think it's extremely lopsided.

What do y'alls think?

Guys cry because...

1. Girls screw them over...
2. They just got hit in the balls...
3. They're about to die...
4. Their heart is broken...
5. Because they are true men.

GIRLS: If you see a guy crying, hug him close and hold him up as he gets over the pain of getting kicked in the nuts. Tell him he's not going to die, and if he's crying over a girl...hug him and kiss him and let him know you won't screw him over and break his heart like the last girl did. Guys just want to know that our girls will be there for us to support us when we need them and help us get our mind off the pain of heartbreak, getting kicked in the balls, and knowing we're gonna die.

Girls cry because...

1. They're sad...
2. They're scared...
3. They're nervous...
4. They're frustrated...
5. They're missing someone...
6. They're alone...
7. They're PMSing...
8. They're pregnant...
9. Their heart is broken...
10. They're in love...
11. Their souls have been torn...
12. THEY MET A BOY THEY CANT HAVE...
13. They fell in love with a boy...
14. They hurt so bad inside...
15. They're mad...
16. Something bad happened...
17. JUST BECAUSE THEY FEEL LIKE CRYING...
18. Because they got hit in the chest.

BOYS: If any girl you know is crying and you see them, don't just stand there and say you're sorry. Hold them and tell them everything will be okay, even if you have no idea what is wrong with them. Girls just want to be held and know that someone cares about them.

well good morning soj G and Ja Stu...

I can't take credit for writing this post...though I am certainly not above crying for the right reasons, i could think of many many more instances where I busted a tear. This list could be far more "in tune" men.

for instance, I cried when my sons were born. I cry when I think of my grandmother and other loved ones that have passed on. I can even cry during a movie when something tragic happens.

that list is pretty skimpy and shallow. Number 5 however could sum it up properly.

thank you for the comments early.

have a terrific day.

I'm with sojourner!!! WTF cause whoever created this list obviously had no flippin clue!

I hate when folks try to make men seem like they aren't human.. and women are some overly emotional creatures..

Have them CRY over this.. *flippin the double bird*

T.a.c.D said...

all i can say is i totally ditto what bklyn diva stated...there is a quote that states "man was created in God's image and women of God's emotions"

and there may be "some" truth to that...but geeze peeze is it really like that...are we just THAT emotional and men have NONE at all...

naw...can't say i agree...not with this one

a man that can cry with me or cry because he honestly has feelings...is a real MAN to me

I don't think so....

Lo said...

I agree with you, ladies. That list is straight fuckery. Girls cry because "Their souls have been torn" and "They hurt so bad inside"? What the fizzle? It's a blatant attempt to demean and mock what is trying to be passed off as our over-emotionalism. Men, on the other hand, only cry at impending death (their own), crunched balls (their own), and bad breakups (when they're the ditched ones).

This is some bull merde.

I will give it up for #5 for the men. A real man can cry when it's appropriate without being made to feel like it's some punk ass move.

(If your man cries at the drop of a hat, though, including the opening of new barbershops and chicken joints, that might be cause for serious alarm...)

BK said...

Ok I'm back!!!! Exactly Lo & TC.. I do respect a man's emotions but there are some that are OVERLY emotional and we do have to worry LOL

REAL MEN CRY it just ain't for EVERYBODY to see..

It is What It Is... said...

Morning DC,

First things first - that picture of the eyeball is uucky. LOL

But seriously...

This has not be my experience with men. I grew up in a house with 3 brothers. They are all men now. AND I remember them crying with both my parents. They cried when they were scared, lonely, depressed -- they were emotional and wanted to know that people cared about them too.

Well they were not as emotional as me...but you get my point.

My oldest brother is 35 years old and yesterday we were at the house and my Mom found all of our high school diplomas and opened his up and there was a picture of him as a young child and when he saw it - he bursted into tears in front of his 2 daughters and my niece (all of us)...

He later told me and Moms that he cried because he remembered that day as a child and how my Moms had to struggle to give us the life we had and he grateful that we all made it through...and that we all got our high school educations and college degrees becuase of the sacrafices Moms made for us...

Now that's a real man to me...lol

Anyway, My nieces and my daughter all gave him a big hug and told him "its gonna be ok daddy..." and then we all bursted out laughing...lol

That was incredible for him to do in front of the girl children in our family. They need to know that MEN are real people and that they feel too.

seriously though, i hate that over-emotional-woman/real-men-never-cry stereotype crap...man or woman, we cry when something touches our soul...

men also cry at movies or when you tell them you're having their baby (that's not funny)...lol.

dc_speaks said...

hey ladies...I'm quite glad to be getting such feedback from all of you. The list is hoggwash to me, but thats just my opinion.

I wanted to put something out that didn't share my personal feelings but that it also allowed for some comments.

dc_speaks said...

LET ME REPEAT...THIS IS AN EMAIL THAT I GOT. EVEN THOUGH IT APPEARS TO BE WRITTEN BY A DUDE, I DOUBT IT. I DISAGREE WITH THE STATEMENTS THEREIN...JUST SO Y'ALL BE KNOWIN AN STUFF

Lo said...

@JMW: ROFL at men crying (and not in a good way) when you tell them you're having their baby. That should be added to that list for real!

*Tanyetta* said...

EVERYONE wants to be held and know that someone cares about them.

It's not a bad thing to cry. More people should cry and stop holding ISH in all the time.

You're NOT weak if you cry.

GREAT post DC.

I saw this post last night but, I got yelled at to get off the computer before I could type anything. I should've started crying. That would have worked huh? :)

Lo said...

Tanyetta, crying doesn't always work. Someone very close to me insists they'll never believe me if I burst into a full-blown, hysterical cry.

Of course, I wouldn't blame them because, for me, it would definitely be an act. It's rare for me to get too emotional (outwardly). I'm the quietly emotional type. If I do burst into hysterics, it's about to be a reallllllllllly bad scene, so I would recommend all parties in the area break the f*ck out.

The men on my fathers side of the family cry at the drop of a freakin hat. Cry more than the women do, lol.

I once had a boyfriend who would cry (wail really) when I got mad at him. Wasnt a very productive relationship.

I think I cry an average amount. But I think crying is healthy.

@lo...LOL. girl, you KNOW they be in TEARSSSSS then...LOL. what a shame.

T.a.c.D said...

I honeslty think that a REAL man CAN and will cry! Now like Bklyn Diva stated there are jus some dudes that cry for NO reason, or are just unstable-just like women...so i would say that there are just some emotinoally unstable PEOPLE in the world period!

its ok for a brother to shed some tears...

CreoleInDC said...

Hold up...Tanyetta pump ya brakes. Humph! I wasn't advertising helz. It was just too dang much to type up for WTF Wednesday so I added the link to the "Washington Post." TELL me that story wasn't PERFECT for WTF Wednesday? A black dude getting picked up for a crime where the person they were lookin for was actually a WHITE GUY? Priceless!

Trust...if my baby brother needed to call me out...he knows where to find me and he knows I'd NEVER disrespect his site.

Errybody know I charge $387.95 for advertising on my site. It's ad free for a reason so if you advertising...you paying. And I ain't trying to owe DC and Lo $387.95. Cuz you know they'll be trying to collect. LOL!

Oh yeah baby brother...I see you skirted your upcoming emotional show down. ROFL!

KIKI said...

YEAH...What erverybody else said...dis list is some Buuuuuullshyte...

Wanna know when I cry? When I'm mad as hell! My anger management counselor told me that was a good alternative to dealing with my emotions (ie. anger)...ain't exactly working for me...I'd rather be tearin some sh*t up & laughin bout it!

Lo said...

ROFL @ how cool it would have been if CreoleinDC actually owed us $387.95 and at Kiki wanting to tear sh*t up!!!

Woosah, girl, woosah.

(Note to self: Run if Kiki ever cries around me because I'll know I'm about to get my ass kicked.)

nothing wrong with that flick.

KIKI said...

LOL@Lo....I'm not as bad as I used to be...the anger management helped...a little anyways...that plus my cousin who's a cop told me he wasn't comin to get my black ass outta jail no mo...that gotta a sistah to behave a little better...ok, no it didn't...I'm lying...I just do my sh*t on the sneak tip now instead of the bold "Yeah n*gga I did it, so now what?" attitude I used to have...LMAO!

Woosah...

dc_speaks said...

WTF is up with all this violence? oooops it's not wednesday anymore. ROFLMAO

Lo said...

@CreoleinDC: I love "Love Jones" (and Larenz), and it has one of the best soundtracks ever. Like Damon, though, "Dead Presidents" is my favorite Larenz Tate movie. The Hughes Brothers shot the hell outta that flick. It was an instant classic.

@Kiki: Girl, do you. If that means having to spend some nights in jail for smashing some a$$e$, then at least you're being true to yourself...even though it might be a case of "when keeping it real goes horribly wrong." LOL. At least you can say you did you, ma.
