what's in a name?..part II

Ok...after a couple of private emails on "what's in a name"..I am compelled to do a short follow up based on my hidden comments. Man...I wish I could repost those emails...but I won't to protect the privacy of my peeps.

Anywhoooo...here's something else to chew on and I'm sure that "reader x's" will find this just as interesting. This is my damn blog..I write what I want to!!!! LOL!!!

Stepping up on my soapbox now,...and exhaling!!

Nicknames.....and calling your kids by their middle names..WTF!!! If the name is Jamariolificus, why the hell are you calling him"lil pimp" at the ripe old age of 2? He's probably going to catch hell from his first name anyway! If her name is Carolyn, why are you calling her "applebottom shorty"...WHY WHY WHY! Do we think it's cute to associate children with clothing lines and what we believe they look precious in?

And the thing with calling children by their whole name only when they are in trouble is whack! Let's just teach them that hearing their name should be associated with negativity by the age of 3 or 4.

I think everyone has a junebug, dunebug(I had one of those), sleepy, rockhead, Ray Ray, Stinky-butt, shorty, big man, little man, or something that will come to mind they can relate to. Please don't get me wrong, I use nicknames all the time...my blog was about "CHILDREN"...not grown a$$ people!!!

If the shoe fits...wear it! If it doesn't....get a laugh and keep on reading!

Every parent has to consider the 'worst case scenario' when naming their child. I mean, it's just cruel to name a kid something strange just because it was a family name or something.

I know a kid named 'Rusty Pipes,' which I think is pretty bad. I also know a woman named 'Anita Littlecock.' Yes, it's true!

I wanted to name my firstborn son 'Max,' but I was scared that kids might start calling him 'maxi pad,' or something.

A name is a VERY important part of who you are.

Thanks, homegirl! I really needed that laugh.

Talk about names. Reading Saadia's comment reminded me that I used to get ridden like a bus some of the time back in the day. My name is Richard Dix (some chicks used to call me Dick Dix, but that's another topic). I heard the Richard sucks jokes, Dix and the balls, Dick head (especially in the 5th grade when my daddy cut all my hair off), because bald heads weren't popular back then, afro's were. However, I learned early on that none of that stuff meant anything.

Luckily, I was a pretty confident kid growing up, and it helped that I was pretty smart, so to me they were just dumb. Not to mention the chicks still dug me.

As far as nick names, I used to catch it there too. My middle name is Fitzgerald (think JFK - I'm a 60's baby). I went by Fitzgerald in my original stomping grounds (grandma's neighborhood), and I used to get called Frigerator, Fishdale, Fishhead, Fish anything but my dog gone name. So starting around the third grade, I stopped going by that altogether, except with family. I'm glad I didn't need therapy, because we couldn't afford it. So yeah, I'm feeling you on the name thing, which as I said in my previous post is why I'm into strong sensible names. My girls have cute names and my son has a cool name. Cause I don't want to have to hurt nobody about my kids.

Wow, that was therapeutic, thanks DC.

Funny Sheletha! (lol), well i had a sensible first name, but my last name was Sewell, so the names were Seweyhole, Sewer, Sea-well, etc....didn't bother me as much though. My kids have sensible names as well, even though my son wants to change his, and has told people in the past his name is Justin (lol)....
