Tagged one more friggin time...the last time!

I have been tagged for the last time by Blu Jewel and I told her that I would get this done over, so I shall keep my end of the bargain.

As the rules state, I should post eight random facts about myself and tag more people. however, I will not tag anyone, I will let them choose to do it if they so desire.

Here goes with the useless information about me:

1. I am a huge comic book head. I have read every comic book brand that I cook get my hands on(DC, Marvel and macabre books, but I wish that I could have attended the Comic Con '07 real bad.

2. I got my first car at 15 yrs old and blew out the engine in less than 2 yrs. I had a '82 Dodge Mirada.

3. I am a diagnosed Sleep Apneac and refuse to use the machine.

4. I used to practice calligraphy as a young child because I thought that good penmanship was paramount to being intelligent. (yeah, right!!!)

5. I owned my own 22 caliber rifle by the age of 11 and was taught how to shoot on camping trips by the age of nine.

6. I was a lifeguard for the city of Cleveland parks and recreation dept and my local community neighborhood swimming pool and stopped because I had to dive into the lake to attempt a rescue and the person kicked me in the head and almost knocked me out in their panic. I was afraid of my favorite element and didn't swim for almost 3 yrs after that happened.

7. My favorite color has always been purple and I used to wear a purple suit with gator shoes.

8. I bought my first toy vehicle in my 20's. It was a
Porsche 944 turbo and I had a mechanic that only worked on German cars that charged me so much for parts and labor that I wanted to kill him. Butttt....I bought the car because I fell in love with it after watching My boy, Brad Sellers get out of one when I was working at a Pizza Hut as an asst mgr. It was my first case of car envy as an adult.

Well there ya have it.

Have an awesome day and feel free to do one if you so desire.

Monday Musings...Part V

It's Monday Musings time again. Over the past couple of weeks, I have been called OCD about something that few women that I personally know could care less about...My Lawn. Let me preface this blog by saying that I was raised in a household where the lawn was cut every week and watered regularly.

When we moved into our home, the whole street looked like a desert. My next door neighbors both keep the yard cut, but water was scarce in any yard within a few houses. Within a week of moving in, I had a 150 ft hose attached and a fantastic sprinkler and Scotts Lawn service had already treated the yard. I also watered the yard for about 13 hours over a span of 4 days and was laughed at by a certain person who shall remain nameless.

This was the norm on the street or worse...and also how our yard looked when we moved in. All the front yards...I was going nuts.

Neighbor's backyard...

This is how our front looks now....YAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!

...and a horrible shot of our backyard taken with my camera phone.

At any rate, I have been accused of "throwing the gauntlet" at the neighbors because we now have one of the nicest lawns on the street and it has a longgggg way to go before I'm through with it. Now some of them have started watering their lawns too...hahahahahaha

Am I allowing for my normal competetive nature to influence this area of my life, or do I just want to have our home look nice on the outside and the inside because that's how I was raised?

Since my view is biased...what do you think?

In Bizarro world...this might be normal.

This took place a few minutes ago and I captured the scene on my cell phone.

Ok, in the midst of all the atrocities done to animals being a huge part of the media topics of late, I wanted to show some of our four legged friends some love. There is nothing more loving than the show of a mating hump...hahahahaha(just joking)

I'm sure that at first glance, this is just some normal looking scene that you would find on any given street, at any given time...yet this story that goes a lil farther than normal behavior.

I'd like to put a spin on this just for a sec and address "Learned Behavior" patterns. It hit me like a ton of bricks how learned behavior patterns can confuse genetic code behavior. Why is that you may say? Well, I'm glad you asked. Here's why...the dog on the top is a female and the dog getting humped is a male. Now this scene takes place in my backyard and I must say that it is quite startling because I know the sexes of the dogs.

I got to thinking that since the bigger dog(Toshi) is only a little more than two years old and the smaller dog(Milo) is about 9 years old, the alpha male behavior taught to the female must have confused her. She has been humped on by the boy dog on more than a few occasions and so in a form of dominant aggression fashion she is trying to punk my boy, Milo. Each time I see her trying to break him off a piece of who knows what, I rush to pull her off of him. Did my inherited dogs watch old "superfriends" cartoons and decide to act out a scene between Superman and Bizarro?....orrrrrrrr...did Milo mistakenly teach Toshi that humping is a way to exert authority or dominance over her sibling. It is something to think about as a parent indeed.

To sum all of this up, I'd caution everyone to be very careful what they teach their children and other people around them. We have the ability to deprogram even the basic codes.

Remember that we are teaching something at all times. Either we are teaching how to do something right or wrong...but we are always teaching because someone is always watching whether we know it or not.

This is my public service announcement.

Pot Luck Friday...part XVII

Dis shole duz look good!

This forum is officially a smash hit. I am excited to present once again POT LUCK FRIDAY.

What I would like to do is get some feed back from some non blogging readers or some bloggers that don't have the time to blog right now. An open forum, if you will. For example, the BET Awards, folks killing their family or how Eddie Murphy indeed was that baby pappy(lol..I loved the movie "life").

There is no topic off limits! I know that relationship posts are common but be more specific. What element of the relationships? Finding one, keeping one, how to get out of one..all are up for discussion and friendly debate.

I am an information junkie! Garbage in--garbage out! But, I still like to process information. So, I'd like to try to start a day where the readers are in control of every single question, we take the comment that is posted right before you, answer their comment question, then post your own question for the next person. We can discuss it in a civil manner. If it goes well, then it could be really fun. I must exercise more moderation on the personal topics comments. I got a few emails from some participants and I must agree that some of the comments were hurtful and should be handled off line...privately. Let's have fun and keep it clean...please---thank you.

Have a fantastic weekend and let's come up with some great questions to kick around the campfire!

So without further delay.....who is up for the challenge, part 17?

Here's a prime example of a WTF moment in THIS AOL STORY about driving road rage. WTF(who)...hasn't experienced that?!

Monday Musings...part IV

It's Monday Musings time again. It's kind of short but I think that it pretty much speaks for itself.

Wow, It was a fantastic week off from the internet and much needed. I did have an opportunity to get tundreds of things done while preparing for a move.

Ok so here is my topic...Moving. I have moved plenty of times before and each time that I moved I felt like I left a peice of myself in each place. The nostalgia of going back to Columbus, Ohio or Milwaukee, Wisconsin is such a high for me that I can't even explain it. But here comes the dread...packing. I absolutely hate packing and find no entertainment or enjoyment out of the sound of tape screaming across boxes.

I suppose my biggest thought on the whole process is..is it normal to love moving, yet hate almost every aspect of preparing for the move? ie: putting stuff in a storage unit with no ventilation in about 110 degrees heat. Is the thrill of the new home superceding the dread of the packing for anyone else, or am I just a little bit off? LOL...hopefully I'm not off.

My old school---repost.

Repost cause of the violent email requests that I just checked and recieved...LOL

dang, it's nice to be missed sometimes..but family, business and family business does come first, so I'm sure you all understand.

I am pumped, I was listening to my mp3 and flipping back and forth on the radio this morning and just bounced all the way into work. I heard some Bobby Brown "Rock witcha" and some other favorites. Ready for the world, Guy, Alexander O'Neil, Freddie Jackson, Prince, Phil Collins, New Edition, Black Michael Jackson, NWA, Shabba Ranks, Beastie Boys, EPMD, Eric B & Rakim, Run DMC, and a whole lot of 80's and 90's r&b/hip hop artists. I scanned all the songs....15-30 secs per song and had a blast.

The realization that lately I have been stuck in a time warp of my "old school" made me feel great! Watching Spike Lee movies, Beat Street, Last Dragon, Color Purple, New York Undercover, Fame, A Different World, the Cosby's , Facts of Life and other timeless classics has me comparing them to modern day shows and movies.

I even watched some "I love the 80's" music video countdown with my mother...boy, was that interesting....we watched tv for 4 hours straight...together!!!! What a wonderful day that was, for real. Bonding is great with ma dukes, cause um.....she sure can flip the script cat quick! I take the good and enjoy every nanosecond.

Here's a quick observation as to why newer movies are becoming some of my favorites! They use the same basic story lines as my age group's"old school flicks". I really enjoyed "Stomp the Yard", but I sure thought of "School Daze". Beat Street and Breakin....well how about You Got Served. You want"Fame"...look at Step Up. Girlfriends is the newer version of Living Single. Plenty of new shows copy the the Cosby Show. Different world is older version of Degrassi!

I am reliving my old school days right now and surely do appreciate it! I am a product of the 80's and I'm not ashamed to admit it either!

What current song or movie reminds you of one of your old joints?

Any takers?

Time will reveal- repost!

Over the years, I have heard of some great debates taking place over a very simple topic. What topic are you talking about, D.C.? Well...I'm so glad you asked. Very simply put...time! Everyone measures time in their own way. To each person, their time has either little, no or great value to them, though amazingly, the time of others may deviate depending on the other individual.

In a recent conversation with a friend of mine, I was reminded of a saying that I had heard on numerous occasions in my younger years "Don't let a lack of planning on your part constitute a sense of urgency on mine". It really wasn't until this morning that I really felt the value of that statement. That statement came in a conversation referencing how other people view your time, comparing how "YOU" view your time.

It really is funny how hearing things at a different point in your life causes a totally different perspective on the same verbiage!

Anyway,we have all heard the terms that reference time at some point in our lives so I will only deal with a few of them and we can kick them around the campfire.

1. Time heals all wounds

2. Time is money

3. Time to get right with God

4. Time to take this relationship to the next level

5. Colored People's time

6. All good things come to those that wait(ref. time)

7. It's time to move on(ref. past relationship or mourning a loved one)

8. Time to get back out on the dating horse

There are certainly more that can be thrown up for discussion but we have enough to deal with in just those 8 listed.

I have a background entrenched with a network marketing philosophy of never trading time for money in a linear sense. Always find a way to receive residual income when any opportunity presents itself. Residual income merely means to do something one (time) and get paid for it over and over again. I hope I didn't insult anyone's intelligence, but it is not a common term used in society. We are all more accustomed to residual debt..ie: the bills that come every month after we make the one call for installation, like the heat, gas, or light bills...LOL!

I actually wanted to let the first of the eight ride it out, but I guess I can't do that. There are some of us that just don't care about different facets of life and impose our way of thinking on everyone else. Since this is a touchy subject, even for me, we can keep it on a lighter note. I guess the person that actually started that saying was probably attempting to console someone or give them a feeling that
there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

What has happened possibly since its intended meaning is a warped display of a judgmental demeanor in which the speaker now places their perception of time on the recipient. I have heard on more than a few times that a person should"be over that by now" referencing a death or a break up. Some of the most heartwrenching times of my life are still difficult to deal with, yet I have had someone tell me, "You should be over that by now." I'm sure everyone can relate to that dumb a$$ line in some way or another.

Here's another one that tends to be so liberally used that the insult has been lost in humor. Colored people's time..definition-black people are late! What the hell? Come on ya'll is this really a joke. Is it really funny to be associated with yet another negative connotation? I don't advocate any kind of ethnic banterings, so I do find it to be ignorant! Where's the difference if we say all women are late?

To but a debatable topic on the forefront for Monday isn't my goal, but over the last 10 hours, I have come to the conclusion that using time as a means to control the actions of others is a ploy used by men and women so matter of factly that it bears being put on front street. Some of you may agree, others may not...but in my opinion, we are all guilty of manipulation and falling prey to it every day of our lives.

I know that everything happens in God's time and that things happen according to His permissive will or His Divine will. Let's leave it up to Him and He will direct our paths.

Happy writing and have a great week!

Monday Musings...part III

It's Monday Musings time again. It's kind of short but I think that it pretty much speaks for itself.

So here goes, if you are a naturally nurturing individual and you are always the person that others look to for support and comfort/help, how do you react when someone offers to help you? Are you the person that will refuse help even if you need it because the role reversal may be too much to bear, or are you the person that is too strong to let anyone see you in a moment of weakness....orrrrrr can you accept help when needed and just appreciate that someone else can have your back?

There may be other reasons, but those are the ones that I came up with.

I suppose that some people look for help from others all the time, so this post would not apply to them...LOL!!!

Who's up for Monday Musings query?
